Woes of an artist who longs to go digital

Today, fed up with not having a nice avatar to use around the sites, I spent close to 3 hours in MS paint on my work computer (my job is pretty intense, clearly) meticulously digitizing one of my superpro cameraphone colored pencil drawings into a headshot. the results were shoddy. Shading is hard on MS paint. Pixels are so square. Uhg.
"Well Fizz, why don't you get a tablet and do art on your own computer?"
GREAT QUESTION, disembodied voice. I will answer them in reverse order. For the last few months, my macbook air has been doing this really cool thing where EVERYTHING IS BLUE. It has something to do with the connectors in the hinge I guess. I have a friend who is going to fix it, hopefully someday soon. But it is really hard to do art when all colors are varying shades of blue, grey, and green.
What about a tablet? I have one! ... but the pen is missing. And a new one is 30 bucks. It may still be alive somewhere, but it is within the depths of ex-boyfriend territory, where I dare not go searching for fear of being buried in an avalanche of pizza boxes, "cigarette" papers (yeah right dude) and general shameful living conditions. Maybe someday soon he will find it and I will rejoice. But then the colors. Or maybe I will get my computer fixed, but still not have a pen.
Life is rough, dear furfriends. Some day, maybe some day soon, I will get to hone my digital art skills and get good enough to do sweet commissions and bring my characters to life the way I imagine them. In the mean time, I'll just keep grumpily scribbling away with colored pencils and taking shoddy iPhone pictures of them to share. Fizz out.

OMG, I am suffering from the EXACT same thing right now! I probably won't be able to get a tablet or something similar for a long time, if ever, and my one touch screen device (my iPod)... well, I don't even know if that would work (I doubt it), and have no idea if using a non-touch screen laptop would work. Ugh! The woes of an artist who longs to go digital is very painful indeed. DX
