Digital art... with a mouse?

Can you get by like this? My drawings are taking up alot of space and it's just not very fun that I have to be at a desk, have the right tools and lighting, ect. ect.
I just Adobe Illustrator after finding my time with Flash to not be entirely enjoyable... I just don't have the patience and sync to be able to flow frames by frames... so I decided, I'm going with Illustrator and just working on art... and maybe simple GIF icons.
But how long can I make it with only a mouse? I won't have a drawing tablet until later.
Is it even possible? Do any of you guys use just a mouse for your digital work? Would love some input! Thanks!

the way I work
i first draw a pic sketch by hand with a pencil
the the important line i make sure to make them thick so when i put a other piece of paper over it the thick lines will be visible
then i draw over with a a small maker mostle a cd marker
then i scan it
then i use corel paint to make it a black and white png so that it not discolor
then i use paint to draw it over again with a different colore mostly red over the linens with those lines you can bend
when that is done i remove all the black pieces that are left so that only red lines are left
then i go to corel paint to convert it to a black and white png again
well i also make sure to have a few copys of the first pic
with one of the copys use to take apart the body parts of the character that i gonna have make movement
its handy then to have a program that make small or big rotation for movent of head or arm and legs or tails
i use corel paint for that
best to color it as last
its a lot of work and patience is a most belief me i also want to make in one hour ^.^ but that only works if you have a bout a 100 animators working for you
but if you practice much you get better and faster at it
hope you have same use with this info i am still learning my self
<^,^>
Also, I decided I won't give up on animation and flash. It's too fun! Even if it does take lots of patience, I still find a completed animation so fun to watch~
you can always ask me to help with any thing
you know that flash i maked wase done with 2 pics

i just enlargerd or or turned around parts
i always try out this and that to see how it looks ^^
If you feel like you get discouraged too easily, I dont know if I'd invest much time in it. I would suggest youre better off trying to practice your hand with actual drawing.
