Its come to my attention that I should probably keep a journal of the events happening in the world today. This world, our world... something that has become so alien and twisted that I no longer recognize it.
For the last three weeks I have been moving from place to place and survive with eight other people. Des (his real name is Malik Jackson), Diablo (or D-Train as he likes to call himself), Christof (a lion that likes to pretend he's still some big important hotshot), Streaks (probably the last of his rescue team sent in for survivors), Izumi (a red panda who used to dance for a living, but I guess you could say she's retired now), Mary (a human who recently began Med School to become a doctor), Marsha (a silver fox and mother who's lost more then any of us) and Alessio (a little mouse with no past that we know of).
There were others in our group before. Ryan, Joyce, Danica... all gone. Ryan was killed by something massive that we have no name for other then beast. Joyce was bitten by one of the infected and later kidnapped by a flying creature. We don't know if she's dead or alive, really. Danica was starting to lose her mind. I know we had our disagreements and she hated Izumi's guts, but... I don't know. She was our best shot and start of Streaks' team. Also, she and Diablo seemed to have an understanding, but she was becoming more and more unable. I guess that's what this new world does to you. It takes what's already inside you and makes it fester and grow until you're no longer who you once were. Or something. She was shot by another group of people. I want to say I'll miss her, but at the same time, a part of me is almost relieved she's gone. That's probably a bad thing to say, right? These days I don't know.
The first few days before the initial outbreak were kind of strange. Lots of injuries, some reports of missing people. The hospital was filling up with more people then they had beds. Then it happened. My mother was a nurse. I can only hope that she's somewhere safe. That's all we have left now. Hope. The hospital was considered ground zero, but no one could contain it. Then the infection spread out into the streets. Soon it was no longer reports on a TV screen, but standing right outside your house, in your neighbor's yard... I try to forget that night.
My father was a deputy sheriff of this town, Belleview. I thought if I went to the police station I might find him. Wrong. They were practically loaded for bear as I rocked up on my bicycle. Just a bit of humor, a lame attempt, I suppose, but it's true! Everyone was running this way and that and preparing for what looked like war. I found my father's old friend, another police officer, who stored me away in some evidence locker just as the shit started hitting the fan. Sorry, I'm not one for cursing... there's just no better way to describe this. That's how I met Des and Diablo. My father's friend must have sent them in to watch over me as the screaming took place. Right away I warmed up to Diablo. He's become like the older brother I never knew.
We weren't there too long before everything went quiet and the national guard FINALLY showed up. Danica, Ryan, Joyce and Streaks were part of the team. We were just lucky that Des kept his radio on him at the time or they would have missed us completely.
Those days... so much Chaos.
I think I'd like to sleep for a bit now. There's just so much to share... and I haven't even told you about the big monster that seemed to have saved my life. So much to say and I don't know if I have enough time to write it in.
