"Dear newbie makers, we only have commissioning fursuit makers in our directory, please remove our logo from your page. Thanks! X " - apes tweeting from ukmakers
I would love to have everyone on here but I can just add everyone for making one or two heads.
Here's what I did to get started.
I made Apes v.1, snow the white dragon (awful), Apes v.2, tiger head for a friend, lion head for a friends friend. Got bugged by someone random to make them a partial, and tested the water and opened for one partial and one head. (About a year of making)
They got snapped up and well. Here I am now. Fully booked and busy as hell!
It's not a quick process unless your first heads (I say heads over tails and handpaws)
Are truly experimental.
I would recommend. Making head A. Making head B but different species. (Cat is far from dog) make for a friend or for material costs.
The fur, foam ect.
Don't practice with poor fur, it makes your work look poor. There are good cheaper furs out there then imported ones.
oh! Perhaps I should start making a fur directory journal on here too.
PLEASE REMOVE OUR LOGO UNLESS I PUT YOU ON OUR DIRECTORY!
Thanks,
Apes~

PLEASE REMOVE OUR LOGO UNLESS I PUT YOU ON OUR DIRECTORY! (even if there not on the commissioning list isnt this good advertiseing?)
For established makers, it's a goal to be reached not to be deterred. ( how can you be an established maker if no-one is willing to give u a chance?)
Its the way its worded that makes it seem like your trying to stop newbie makers from being a part of the group.
You have to earn the badge just like
Makers have done well in their own before this directory was set up. The work speaks for themselves.
Also apes i am not saying all this because it is you running the Group, i would say it on anyother group i was watching.
I can't see why this shouldn't be the case here either? Nothing wrong with earning something through positive review.
~Out~
I don't have people asking me to add them to any other category so far everyone who has is already established and has a good few projects to show.
(Copy pasting, just so everyone knows the story behind)

When you are added for plushies (when you make the shout to be added) will you then be elitist?
Plus i didn't even think I'd be allowed to be put on the list for plushies, considering the dislike for me..
It's a creative directory not a personal one.
That's why I don't add people on the random to the list since we opened and put the first few up ourselves.
However it's the group's title and header wording that's causing the confusion. A maker isn't automatically a seller. One is anyone who does it for any reason (which is the cause of the issues people are having at not being allowed in), the other is either a full or part-time JOB.
May I suggest a change of the group description to "sellers" rather than "makers" and to prevent unproven submissions have those in the directory provide a link to examples of each product they produce to place beside their name. Make it more apparently a directory for shoppers.

But to the point works more often the long wordy journals. Even if it ruffles fur.
Or they're just being provocative asshats for no other reason than to massage their throbbing egos because I really don't see how it's elitist or discouraging.

And if this isn't a help group then why the long list of advice? Surely it would be better to have the getting started tips in a separate journal to make it less confusing than lumping it in with membership rules?
Meh, anyways, hope things get resolved on the note/shout front!
I WOULD NOT ASK TO BE LISTED HERE YET.
If you think making 2 heads suddenly means you're good enough to commission DONT.
These 2 are gifts for my bf and brother and apes is supplying materials as well as the surprise suit purely to give me more experience. I feel its simply irresponsible to ask to be advertised before you've even made a head never mind only made a few and I certainly won't be selling suits until I've mastered it!
I can still use this group for advise, and to contact makers for advise without needing to use its badge.
I feel this is actually quite basic info/advise...... And honestly if I get hate over this I don't care quite simply I wouldn't want to see loads of listings for makers with no prior work when even I've made some stuff. Make some stuff and come back to advertise later the group isn't going anywhere.
But here is proof once again that it can be done and has been by every maker from the beginning if time. If people like what they see they will ask you for your work.
Thank you medosai for proving my point.
I think I'm a good example that you don't need to advertise on a group when you start out - make some for friends and family, that is good advertisement alone. Then as confidence, skill level and practise progress, begin to talk to groups like this. Having a portfolio of work will be more rewarding than jumping straight in at the deep end before you know how to swim after all!
Thanks stupid people for providing me with entertainment.
Only adding a UK makers badge before you've even made a suit.
Many people in this thread are supportive and offer good advice and opportunity to make them.
Fucking hell, I held you in higher regard than that mate. Why are you so butthurt about implementation of this scheme for the UK Makers organisation. This organisation does not hinder you making your own suit.
