Something must be wrong with me!

Maybe a third of you, I've met through roleplay. It's a pretty important part of my life: it's how I meet most of my close friends, how I interact best, how I develop my emotions and learn to see things from a new perspective.
Way too often, though, I can't tell when someone's in-character or out-of-character. I understand that every one of our characters shares part of our personality. Heck, depending on the person, it could even be an exact duplicate. But I'm finding that, more and more lately, the line is blurring, and I'm getting people mixed up with their characters.
Last weekend, it even ended up REALLY pissing someone off (sorry, Hellgan!). I need to gain some powers of perception before I end up alienating more people.
Anyway, status update, blah blah. Nearly done with this glove commission, then I've got at least three art pieces to do.
Oh, and wish
karnimani a happy birthday!

To be honest, i've done the same, and i'm one of the rpers that put everything into their character, my first and main oc is based on my life.

Urf, I know that feeling. It doesn't help that I act very arbitrarily myself...

Sometimes it's not entirely your fault that this blur occurs, occasionally not at all your fault. Some have a character that they create, which shares their personality. However, the more they play the character, the more they 'become' the character, blurring the line more and more, sometimes to the point where their IC and OOC selves fuse into a being where you can't differenciate from one or the other. Sometimes, they're partially to blame for the confusion, and it really takes some thinking to find the difference!

I wonder if it would be a good idea to make a really assertive, happy character. Perhaps then, I could start to become like him.

The thing is, you've got to roleplay them A LOT, and even then, it can take a long time. It's a gradual, but noticable process. An actor whom took the role of The Joker had to retire early, as since the character was insane, he went in that direction too! You gotta be careful with characters, as you become them if you let them take a place in your heart o3o

I never really felt that I've directly copied my own personality into a character I've made before, though most tend to usually share an upbeat personality I find fun to use XD

youre certainly not the first to do that haha. like you said though some people's characters are exact duplicates of their own personality and what not. i'm actaully one of those kinds myself. my sona is basically me with a different appearence XD
