Very interesting. There's a lot of evidence from that study which places furries well within the general norm of other fandoms/subcultures in terms of composition. Though I think furries have the distinction of having the youngest fandom members, which is neither good nor bad, just very interesting. I'd like to say that has a lot to do with the prevalence of the internet among younger generations, but that would just be speculation.
As for the babyfur thing, it really doesn't matter. Every social group has its fringe groups which are rejected by the population at large. If you took surveys of all types of people they would probably have a similar disapproving attitude towards furries in general. And plus, the survey didn't distinguish between babyfurs and cubfurs, nor did it address many other popular large fetish groups (fat furs/vore for example). As you saw, fetishists in general were over all negatively viewed, and when you single out only a handful of specific fetish groups, you'll see that translated into (likely) negative views across the board, and makes those selected appear even more marginalized.
So while it IS statistically noteworthy, I think it doesn't matter that much. Its like so what? A bunch of people dislike that group. They aren't gonna do anything about it outside of make snide remarks online, where they're safe from direct confrontation.
Every group need a scapegoat, babyfurs are for furries. Nazifurs are more hated only because they are associated to murders, facism.... but they aren't as suffering from persecution as the babyfurs because they are much less numerous.
or maybe not.
i get a giggle out of the fact that people hate vampires so much. total counterculture X3
