It is now official, folks. After nearly four months of searching, I accepted a job offer this morning. I am going to be working as a Game Software Engineer for Escalation Studios in Dallas, TX. My start date will be June 20th.

As for Blizzard, I had a great interview there last week, but unfortunately they feel that my technical skills are not quite up to the level they need at the moment.

Though we're sad to be leaving California, and we're not sure what to expect in Dallas, we're happy to have a job, and we're looking forward to the future.

NOW perhaps I can quit worrying about putting food on the table and start working on my art again...

It´s sad that you can´t make it to FC though but maybe you can try for 2013 and get by plane there
I myself can´t make it to the next FC for several reasons and I aim for next years AC

Thank you, Gen! Yes, I'm sorry to have to do this to my family--of course, they would prefer to stay here in California. But Texas will bring new opportunities, I'm sure.

Squeeeeee! Mondo congrats, Big T! Though Dallas might be pretty hot, even for a Cali dragon, so make sure you got a good cooling system.

Hehe yeah, I lived in Houston for 5 years, and that was pretty hot too. Good thing about Dallas is the fact that the humidity is so much less than in Houston.

I will miss the mountains, though.

Yeah, I love mountains. I'd take them over beaches for vacation any day. But at least Dallas has the best sallad around.

I am sad about this too, Kantaro. It means that I can't go to FC any more, and it will be more difficult to get together with you IRL.

It's an on-campus job cleaning mouse, rat, dog, cat, insert-animal-here cages, haha! Not the most glamorous work, but it's through a lab so it's alright! :D

Yeah, that's one of the things that excited me about this opportunity--the cost of living is MUCH lower than in SoCal.

that is too bad that you have to move :/ but I'm really glad to hear you got a job! It's mildly unnerving to see someone who has as much experience and enthusiam as you seem to have struggle to find a job.

On the up side, you'll be close enough to go to MFM :3

Believe it or not, Keyla--There are quite a few programmers in the industry that have far superior skills to mine. I was reminded of this fact repeatedly during the job-search process.

Yeah, one of the biggest things that drew me to Dallas was the lower cost of living. I may even be able to get into a house after a year or two, instead of renting for 6 years.

Cateagle is back in Fort Worth since he got a job with Bell Helicopter.
I might find some reason to get back that way again since new developments should help with the finances. Don't think I will be going to MFM any more but I might look into RCFM or FWA. Chance I might try for AC in a couple of years too.
