Critique

General
I was talking to both
vegex and
ganren tonight, and now I'm itching for some critique.
I've been quite unsatisfied with my art lately and where it's going. I've been in such a slump. I just feel like my style is so generic, and my subject matter unimaginative. Furry is what got me to really strive to get better at drawing a couple years ago, but in an ironic twist of fate, it's now what's holding me back from taking my art further.
So, I ask of you guys, what do YOU think I could do with my art? What things do YOU think I could work on? Go ahead and take a look at my gallery. Find specific pieces if you will, and tell me what may be wrong with them.
I want some helpful critique. Links to some good watercolour tutorials would be much appreciated.
I don't want asskissing. It doesn't help me at all. I know nowadays people are really sensitive to critique and can't handle it, but I love it as long as it's constructive.

FA+

Try fore-shortening and very funky perspective too
Thanks dude, much appreciated.
As for content, you could just go to a public place or just drive around and look for something that inspires you. Maybe look at some books, photos or magazines. It doesn't always have to be a person or animal, you could use objects that inspire you to draw. Music always helps me (try something without words so you don't get distracted)
Backgrounds are a great addition but you shouldn't focus on that until you're comfortable with content. I have some tutorials on my computer if you want some. DA (though I know you loathe to admit it) actually has a lot of good tutorials. That's where I get mine usually.
TRY DRAWING MORE WOMEN. One thing about your style is you draw males so much that the characters always turn out masculine.
ok I that's all I have to say. Hope it helped :)
Comments like this make me happy :DDD
Haha, yea, I get so distracted by my music because, well, it's awesome. But thank you, I'll keep those things in mind.
I think you should do more backgrounds, and everything I wanted to say has already been said. So... Hey. sadjghlasfjhljakhfasljhflsjafafpenissajkdkjafsljhfsalhtheembassadorsaysfuckyousdjkhfasljkhglaskghlksjhgkljaghgasljsadgkjh
I THINK YOU SHOULD COLOR MOAR
But then again I haven't been colouring that much lately either DX>
?SCIP
if you have been working on a peice for two thirds of a class and the drawing dosent work you should take execive risks and risk destroying it because an ok drawing isnt that usefull to you.
to do something new you cant know where you are going, because if you know where your going then you are going somewhere you have been before.
those are my two artschooly type quotes and advice i have. as long as you keep searching you are bound to get better. its good to see people actively trying to get better.
I'm biased towards pencil illustrations and sketches, which is why I don't colour the majority of my work. But I will definitely keep your advice in mind when I do colour things!
actually no, i love sketchy pen work. one of my favourite things to do when i'm bored is draw with ballpoint pens. but that's because they're a lot like pencils, with the ability to vary the darkness of the lines. they allow to me do some nice sketchy stuff without having to worry about smudging as much
I am trying to get back into colouring more often. I'm a lover of pencil illustrations though, so that's what I tend to stick to. Nowadays I mostly just draw something and either leave it in pencil or paint it with watercolours.
Yea, I'm gonna move away from furry subjects for a while (not including whatever trades/commissions/gifts I have right now to do).
Second, I don’t necessarily think furry is holding you back when there’s so many different ways to do such art (such as different perspectives, themes, or ideas involving furry stuff in general). But if you feel bored of it or don’t feel up to drawing it at the moment, that’s understandable.
With all that said, the one thing I need to reiterate is the streaking on your coloring. Remember to test out the circular motion advice I got from Kamilya. (I really wish I could remember all of the advice she gave me, but I do remember her showing me the circular motion idea).
Otherwise, some suggestions of things that I haven’t seen you work on much or at all.
- Perspective (The Garden and the one of one of your older characters in the gas mask are the only two pieces I’ve seen you do in regards to perspective). Try different angles, such as from below and another from above. Also, seeing a character from two different perspectives, (such as looking at both the character and the character’s image in a mirror) is good practice.
- More detail, such as with backgrounds or characters or character items/clothing etc.
- Lighting. To be honest I don’t recall you ever doing a piece regarding darkness and light sources. I realize this particular suggestion might be very hard to accurately achieve but it is a suggestion of something to work on.
Other than that, I can’t think of anything else. So I leave you with some quick examples of good Magic the Gathering art/ideas to hopefully inspire you or give you ideas.

Oh man, thanks for those cards, dude. Those are awesome.
I do actually draw some perspective stuff from time to time, but I'm one of those artists that sometimes throws away stuff..but yes, I definitely need to work at it more.
I will most certainly keep in mind what Kamilya said. Right now I'm really into watercolours, but next time I do marker work, I'll try that :D
I do shade things most of the time, but the reason I've never really seriously experimented with lighting is because I get so easily confused about what colours to use. I know, I know, trial and error, and I'll do that. It's my perfectionist tendencies popping up again DX>
But thank you so much for your comment Ganren, I really needed some input. <333
