Sonic's birthday? (brace for mild rant)

Sonic's birthday? Nice to know. I'm quite happy, actually, I grew up with Sega and Nintendo. Sega moreso as I had a Mega Drive. MEGA DRIVE. Not 'Genesis'. I have a Mega Drive, not a goddamn Final Fantasy-sounding thing. Silly America.
So, today is the day, that 19 years ago, Sonic was born. Brought joy to the younger people in those days (I was born in 1989, arguably the best year to be born in for gaming) and endless delight to those who found themselves naturally attracted to technology.
However. As it is the birthday of childhood heroes.
Cue the tumor-inducing kaleidoscope of recolors and mary-sues being 'ttly bistest frendz 4eva wif sunik' and all that crap. You know, some shitty screenshot or 'drawn-well-but-recolor-nonetheless' or 'shitty unoriginality SHADOW CLONE BROTHER OF THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM' and so on. The epitome of these things, you know, like a blue Amy or a green Tails or a black/red Knuckles or something like that. Drawn with Sonic or some crap. You all know what I'm talking about. You've all seen it. Seen it in your waking nightmare of FA or DA browsing (or SA or FAP if you're that desperate). The horribly drawn pictures, or the 'art style is actually quite nice but the character is fucking godawful' and such. You all know how it is. How some person sees a Sonic character and has the original idea of drawing THEIR murrsona or characters with canon and treat it as canon. That they expect to see their character in the games or in the comics (as confusing as they are in my opinion) or to be in official media. Oh hell, I've seen plenty of people EDIT official media with MSPaint and do unmentionable things to screenshots of Sonic X or the old AoStH/SatAM cartoons. Seen plenty of people abuse and malignify the fuck out of things that have the potential to be so beautiful and worth keeping for future generations. Then I remember the future generation is always going to be 13 year olds who think their Sonic/Shadow/Knuckles/Tails clones are the most original thing ever since the Rubik's Cube.
I'm all fine for fan-art, I can name you a lot of people who draw actually awesome, nice things of Sonic and his comeraderie of companions. I can show you beautiful things, where there's not one trace of 'original character' or 'thisis how sonic should be' or 'this is my character zonis/konis/monic/tonic/ronic/sunic/cinos/tinoc/shadic/runic/tunic/zunic/cinis/speedy/mach/megafast/paul/david davidson the hedgehog'
I can show you people who are really DESERVING of genuine praise like that because they don't just draw Sonic-related stuff all the time. Or they draw it out of context or non-canon, something genuinely awesome or silly.
TL;DR : Incoming fail at all angles, Captain, brace for increased drama.
EDIT : I re-read what I wrote about the whole onslaught of incoming shitty Sonic art, and I realised that it happens enough already, let alone today of all days.
EDIT II : You may think this is rich coming from me, as I have some of those very types, the Sonic 'fan characters'. But hey. I don't associate with canon faggotry. My stuff is my own doing, I don't go about screaming 'DO NTO STEAL THIS IS SONICS BOYFRIEND' or something.

I think it's lame how some of these people just keep thinking their character is so very awesome they don't need to change anything, and when someone suggests an improvement they get butthurt over it.
But there is the other kind too. I know a few artists whose characters started out as a blatant recolor but evolved into something original looking, a.k.a had a total makeover. It's always nice to see people growing out of the whole recolor scene and realising their hedgehog character doesn't have to look like Sonic/Shadow/Silver/Amy. Also those who come up with different types of animal for the character are warmly welcomed.
Though I'm too much of an echidna fangirl to change <.<
Anyway, happy 19th birthday to Sonic.
I did wanna make a mobian dragon character at some point but I'm not all that good on making them <.<
