Yaaaaay fer smart partitions! But you know, once a sector goes bad, it won't take long for the rest of the drive to crap out.

It's weird, because there were no bad sectors. o_o It's like a cosmic ray came down and zapped a bit somewhere that made it bad just enough for Windows not like it but everything else to be fine with it, lol!

I wouldn't trust it! I have known a computer to suddenly appear to be working properly after an illness and then become just as inoperable as before or worse! I would definitely save anything important off of it and... well that's just about all I would do because I'm awful with these things.

Yes, when it came back to life the first thing I did was copy all of my important data to a safe location. I do still have to decide what to do with the drive itself and whether to continue using it.

I'd still get a new Harddrive

Ironically, I have a spare 2.5" drive that is the same capacity as this one. It was bought for $30 just for the purpose of trying out Windows 7 on my Tablet PC, and since I have a spare Win 7 serial # from MSDN, I'll likely stick that one in there and retire the old drive.

In the meantime, I'll continue my art this week on the old drive. *lives dangerously* =D

But with no windows that means no steam which means no L4D2 and such. o.o;

It was my Tablet PC (my art computer. ^_^; ) that had the weirdness. My L4D computer is up and running Windows 7 (with slow internet, tho.. ¬.¬ ) so that's taken care of. =)

It was just the tech gods griefing me by having my Tablet PC drive go into a coma right when I was busy upgrading my main computer. X3

I actually have 2 macs, both Minis. One PPC and one Intel. They're dedicated to my work, however. ^_^;

Well it is for me, even though I still wouldn't cal myself a Unix guru! XD Though in this case I really didn't have to do anything except boot the disk. It was all kinda spooky that it noticed something was wrong and fixed it automatically... o_o

Which reminds me I have to still redo that laptop since it's still running the same old repaired/bandaged Windows XP and use the second of the 2 Win 7 Pro licenses I have. X3 I was keeping it around since I was using it as my router since the mobile broadband drivers work better in XP than they do in Win 7. But last week I finally got a mobile broadband router with WiFi and it works just as well as XP and works even better for ping times so there's no reason to keep XP around anymore. I even have a spare blank 2.5" drive all ready for it that's not doing anything so I don't even have to erase the pics off the old drive! XD

Hey where have you been, your art is amazing!

My main art creation tool (my laptop/Tablet PC) was subjugated as a router until recently. XD Also it's just been crazy at work and there are a lot of Summer gardening projects going on. Also my dad had heart surgery so that's been also eating into my psyche and free time as well.

Linux FTW! …also live media FTW. :P

There have been at least a couple of occasions where my system's been b0rked to the point of no return (seemingly :P), such that I couldn't boot to a working shell (let alone an X11/desktop environment :P), so I just pulled out a LiveCD (usually didn't matter which, as I just needed something to chroot from, or test a network connection :P) and fixed things up from "outside" the installed system. :3

Oh, I forgot to mention that the "system" in question is also a Linux…so not quite the same situation as yours, but still, it's great to have live recovery/installation media handy.

No problem! I decided I'd limit my journals so I don't spam my watchers with more of them than artwork. X3

So far the issue hasn't appears again, and it's still the same install of Windows XP on that laptop that was there when a fixed it! =D
