I stick to the shadows and stay out of the light,
lurking where my past touches the present mingled with the future.
Holding my breath waiting to see what is right,
I've made mistakes in the past, got too close, been betrayed and burned.
I try to avoid the fires, trying to win the fight,
but it isnt easy, sometimes the reaching flames feel very warm and so inviting.
Instincts are natural, avoid the fight with flight,
plunging myself deeper into the shadow to avoid where the light touches my world.
I live forever within the darkness of the night.
To step outside of my protective shadow could be the end of everything, end of me.
But the dark will always limit range of my sight,
I will never be able to see beyond that break of dark to light, what could ever be.
Perhaps it is true, indeed, maybe they're right,
That faith is blind...that one must leap because once you take that next step
once you take that leap from dark to the light,
it takes away your sight, you won't see if that next step may be your fall
You have to have faith that it will be alright.
I could never take that chance, I have fallen one time too many
I will stick to the shadow for now, out of the light.
