I found DXM in a pharmacy today. It's still over-the-counter and totally legal and easy to buy. These brands were even marketed for children. Brands include Benylin, Robitussin, and Buckley's.
Dextromethorphan hydrobromide [DXM] is a dissociative anesthetic arguably comparable to phencyclidine [PCP]. They both produce the same psychotic side-effects by blocking glutamate activity in the body. The difference is that DXM is sold in over-the-counter children's cough syrup, meanwhile PCP is highly illegal. They both work as N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists. PCP is considered one of the most dangerous drugs in existence due to its unpredictable, often violent, effects. DXM is known to be extremely dangerous as you can accidentally K-hole and forget to breathe for hours, and because it's an anesthetic, you won't feel that you are dying. In fact, you can't even remember how to breathe in those type of situations, and can't even understand that you need to breathe at all.
And yet, we are wasting time, resources, and money in order to focus on making plants illegal. This is pharmaceutical and political collusion and hypocrisy at its finest. Profit over people, every time.
