I for one won’t be leaving Discord and there are people who have already found ways to prove that you’re an adult without the need of having to submit either a selfie of your face or a picture of your government issued photo ID.

Governments forget that when it comes to making laws for technology. Is that those laws they try making are just a precautionary measure to allow them time before making new laws that better fit the technology.

Instead those laws become completely outdated and obsolete before the ink of the letter of the first word has even had a chance to dry.

There will never be a time where laws made by people who don’t understand technology will ever actually match the technology that’s being used at the time the laws are made.

the thing that set me of was more revelations pointing to there being an increasing push to get people to face id after all because all that delicious data is _not_ deleted right away after serving its purpose but stored basically indefinitely and used for further analysis and to weave an increasingly detailed and tight net of surveillance, linking online presences together with maximum probability.

I can't blame you for not trusting the face scan thing. The average user, and even myself without a bunch of work, would be unable to tell if the video was sent somewhere for analysis and saved. If they changed to doing that, we wouldn't really know, most likely. I was pretty upset when I thought they were recording and saving the data, too, and if they start doing it, that'd be awful.

The crazy thing though is that currently they don't send the video anywhere. Instead, you download the age verification AI analysis tool to your device and it does the verification on your machine. This is 100% insecure since you control your machine, not them, and so people have already made tools to hack the test and force a positive result. All it sends back is pass or fail, no video. For now!

Death-stranding wouldn't work because their aware of that loophole which if they discover you bypassed them with that lets say when the data leaks again, they ban users who bypassed their system with Death Stranding and Gmod

Yeah, I can see them probably being aware of those options, and still people are going to try it and we’ll see how it goes.

But I heard that Discord just might actually go back on The whole ID/facescan to confirm if you’re an adult. Because of the massive pushback from the public and its users. And then you have people canceling their nitro, I get the feeling that it might actually make them listen and not go through with it.

while Sakhnini is the current CEO, Discord now is a political weapon.. it seems to be complicated, and plenty of people may not comeback after the trust is broken even if there will be no ID verification.. i may stay on discord but without putting my ID on the other hand i use both Fluxer and Stoat as alternatives, Stoat is great but will be much better if they add screenshare for streaming, Fluxer though on the other hand needs stability

I was told from a friend that they’re using Root, I haven’t been using it much but it looks interesting. And I heard from the friend I heard the news from that Discord isn’t going with Persona after the security breach they suffered from.

Although Discord is still going through with the Age verification thing. But other than that. I hope it still keeps the ID and Age verification stuff on hold for as long as it can.

avoid root at all cost, they're closed source, and they're already corporate leaning if they get a huge userbase.. they'd do what discord did possibly by next months or if they reach a userbase milestone, they're already meant to break the trust..
you got either these two open sourced platforms fluxer or stoat.. there's also matrix/element and signal (signal is too private like only if you have a small group)

Since it looks like you're looking for an option to skip the face scan, I was just saying in response to MoT, who was responding to you; the age verification happens on your device and currently only sends a pass or fail. I don't have any links but I've been hearing many folks talking about tools available to force a positive result, since the 'age analysis' happens on your device rather than remotely.

Oh I’ve already found one, it’s been in the Discord settings since day one it was added. It’s the family center setting in the app. And this was how my friend told me about it by sharing this post.

my bigest problem is by now by some hackers was proven it was never around children , but surveliance and gathering your metrics like alweys been , discord not that long ago was aquired by subsidy firm in isreal who is linked to their survilence goverment organisation , and it also connects to a lot servers in usa who also are owned by survilence organisations in usa.

Also , if you dont verefy you are put with children in same groups , so literaly handling children to predators as all they have to do is...nothing.

Stoat is really good from what i could see. And it's easy to use since the layout is so similar to discord.

I wasn't sure if I should say it, in my reply earlier, but maybe you don't know. With modern tech nothing is deleted by default. When you delete a post or your account, or even when you just edit a post, it doesn't actually delete or edit the original. It makes a new one and marks the previous as deleted. So, when you deleted your account, you nolonger have access to it, but it still exists on their servers with all the data history.

I can't be 100% sure this is the case, Discord is a black box, but it is the standard and default, from my studies anyways.

that is in general how most datastorage is handled on a very basic level. if i delete a thing on my HDD it also just changes the table of content and leaves the actual physical data on the disk, to be overwritten whenever to controller next deems that spot viable for storing new information.

I can't directly enforce deletion from their datacentres but if they are doing business in the EU, they also have to abide by their laws and can only hold my information for as long as it is necessary to provide me their service. I am sure they can widen that to keeping the info stored for other users i interacted with since it would be jarring if all of a sudden all things i ever said on the platform got removed from all the logs.

I was going to suggest you add your non-Discord contact info to your profile on Discord so that folks can find you, if they don't have any non-Discord contact info for you already. Like, I can see this so I'm good, but I dunno who might be out there that'll just lose you now. But, you already deleted your Discord account.

Well, I suppose it's probably unlikely anybody especially important would only know you on Discord, and be unable to find you otherwise. ^.^;;

Matrix is an odd one. I found one furry matrix homeserver when I was looking, hosted by these folks https://furryrefuge.com/ but I couldn't actually connect to it. The matrix client I was using, element, said it wasn't correctly set up. Looking again, it's not even listed on their chat apps, so maybe they gave up on hosting it.

Of course, it doesn't help that what rooms (the equivalent of Discord servers) are available based on which Matrix Homeserver you're on and which other homeservers your homeserver connects to. It's similar to Mastodon and the Fediverse, which has the benefit that a big corp doesn't own everything, and the detriments that it's confusing and some randos own each part of it.

Probably the worst thing though is that there ARE public furry rooms (servers) on the matrix.org homeserver (the default/easiest/basic homeserver) and if you do a search for public rooms with the search term furry, nothing comes up! Basically unusable. At this point I forget how I actually managed to find and join the Furry Tech room, too, and that was just a few days ago.

I don't know why it's like that. It's open source so I'd look into it myself and try to help, but everything I've been hearing suggests Stoat (formerly Revolt) does everything good Matrix does, and does it better, so I might just help with that instead. Plus, it seems to be where most furries are going. But, I'm still looking into various places. My list of social/chat apps and options has 26 things to check out just so far!

And yeah there are very few who only contacted me through discord and i always maintained that my FA is my one big social media presence...and i am not that hard to find on here.

i did find a furry server on matrix on the Snoonet homeserver-network-whatever which seems to be a catch-all for the NSFW ones. though it is veeeery quiet.

Yeah I was already considering Discord alternatives beforehand, and this just made me feel like expanding my net. I'm also kinda-sorta considering contributing. We'll see if it works out, or not. There's only so much time in the day and I could spend all of my time on any one thing on my "Good things to do" list.

The most sure way to contact me is by email, but it's probably the worst way to contact me for anything more than finding a better place to contact me. Everyplace else, I don't really trust them not to give me the boot with no warning with or without reason.

As for Discord, well, I'm not happy what they're doing, but that goes for so much of the corposphere that I just have to deal with it. The fact is, they've become such a standard that I'm perpetually at the max limit of 100 Discords, split between furry servers and the official servers for games and publishers, and professional servers related to my interests and work. Before all this mess I was thinking of setting up a second Discord account just to cheat the server limit, to split off the game and professional servers so I could join more on both sides!

They managed to replace web forums for the most part, even as people complained and complained about it, and here they go messing up their golden goose.

Yeah. I only keep close tabs on a few, but I'm in a lot of them. Many furry artists I follow have their own server. I'm in a few more general ones that aren't tied to one person, too. Then there's ones tied to individual video games like Warframe or Autonomica, or companies that make a few, like Pocketpair or Yacht Club Games. Tech stuff would be things like the Godot discord, Canadian Game Devs, Roguelikes, Kenney AKA "Asset Jesus" has a Discord, and some Discords for indie adult games too.

I tend to restrain myself only because of the limit. I'd be in a lot more, otherwise. But, it's weird to need to be 'in' them at all, when most of them are basically text forums like you used to host on a website. ^.^;;

I have a furry domain, but I don't know how to set up a Matrix server (Or some other Federated social space) and all the prerequisites for stability and security, and don't have time to educate myself on making. D=

I'm not thrilled with Discord either, this is acute, and I've told the Discord servers that I own, that they will be dismantled and deleted this year.
