Walking the recovery road, one step at a time

Well it's been three full months since the accident, and every day is getting better with respect to my recovery. I'm now off both the leg brace and crutches, the brace being removed between Christmas and New Year and the crutches being returned to the hospital a month ago. For a while one of my bandages was a "Pico Negative Pressure Wound Therapy" dressing - basically an airtight dressing with tubing connecting it to a battery-powered air pump to give a "reverse compression" to the wound - but that too was removed after it did its job and was replaced with regular dressings until my wounds didn't need even them anymore. I no longer need appointments at Wellington Hospital or District Nurse visits, and I'm now down to just a compression sock to try and reduce the swelling in my left leg.
I'm able to walk pretty well now after several weeks of physiotherapy, only a slight limp remaining and some minor difficulty going up and down steep stairs - kneeling down is still out though. I've started transitioning back to some working in the office after a month of working from home, my first day went well but I did feel mentally weary afterwards. I was warned that might be a thing, so that's okay.
Things I'm really appreciating:
• Standing in a shower (i.e. no shower chair)
• Being able to wear normal shoes and socks, trousers etc (had to wear shorts for two months with the splint and leg brace)
• Driving (now we have the car back from repair)
• Beer and wine (now I'm no longer on daily medication, though I still have plenty of prescription paracetamol tablets for ad-hoc pain management)
• ACC paying for taxi travel between home and the hospital, then between home and work for a workstation assessment - just over 50km each way.
It's been a long road, but I'm getting there.
He aha te mea nui o te ao?
What is the most important thing in the world?
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.
