I have noticed that a fair bit. One long time streamer suddenly blocked me on their Picarto for not caring for Dragonball and thinking the latest Pokemon game looked lazy. This after years of chatting and getting along...it was so shallow and petty. Then they cried about buring birdges and cutting people away for being 'too mean'.

'I'm the vitcim guys, I can get attention and possibly money from others if I am one/encourage the narrative I am not to blame!'


What terrible behaviour and sorry they did that to you. There's folks who will sacrifice decades of friendship over a scrap of attention from somebody they idolize, too.

It was bizarre for sure and thank you. Ah well, sometimes the bridges that need to be burned burn themselves.

I kind of feel you on this, maybe? I don't know there is times when people just say you 'give off' bad energy. I am like how if were just chatting and being friendly. Usually that kind of line would maybe work if you're there physically but over the net? Kind of weird. I agree everything being bombarded with stuff. I mean being a love of socks and nylons, I get more of that on some places, but at times it changes with my tastes. So I feel you.

I think he means it more about how folks have merely preferred sites to use, and so the 'crowd' is split up into tinier and tinier communities and folks don't seem to like to leave their dug in ruts to encounter and interact with others.

Forums dying off is a pain. And you're old internet, where we didn't air our laundry and expect everyone to read it. Your personal life was private, and it wasn't a crime to change your mind/change yourself and grow as a person either.

We all gave each other shit, but same time, it wasn't all 'every action will be scrutinized to death and archived as potential weapons to use on you later.'

The burying us all in newsfeed stuff is easily something that distracts folks with the rampant attention problems people have been encouraged to have. It's hard to hold a conversation with anyone without them trying to feel they have to do 3-4 things at same time/'need' to do that stuff.

They're not even enjoying any of the things they split their attention on, either. As opposed to focusing on one thing to give it full focus so they can enjoy it, y'know?

Forums and IRC chats were replaced with MySpace, Live Journal, and Fanfic.com.
Once fanfic toppled, Live Journal was the place to be, until Tumblr came around.

What I'm trying to say, is that the population and engagement of platforms absolutely relies on the moderation teams.

When Tumblr decided to ban adult gifs, and video, their population plummeted.

Catering to an audience is just a part of advertising now.

All because they realized traffic can be monetized and all, no? It's why they all sell and resell every email and info they all grab at, even if they passing the same data around in a circlejerk in packages.

Yeah, that's true, selling data is the most lucrative part, along with advertising.

Imgur, and Tinyurl have been sold / bought by profit junkies, which is pretty depressing.

I myself have personally witnessed people archiving chats for blackmail purposes, so I feel you. You really can't trust a lot of people anymore.

It's probably why so many nuke and make new accounts, hoping the archived stuff doesn't seem to stick, with new names and all.

I just try to adopt a business approach to all the social media sites, post the work and little else, and save the banter for Discord. But even then I can barely be bothered to keep updating them, with engagement stats just being all over the place...

I guess Discord feels like the most forum like to me. Can't wait for them to fuck it up!

I think we have reached social media stagnation.
The closest thing we got to a new platform recently is Kick. Bluesky is ok.
But bluesky is just a fucking bootleg twitter. It doesn't have anything of it's own to make it stand out. If it had a gallery option, shit would do numbers.

The amount of crap is increasing exponentially. Not the greatest time to be online. I wish we had something that isn't slowly enshittified, but I cannot think of any place.
Then again, we all are getting old. Then again then again, I feel no one's happy about the situation.

I feel like despite having more options for social we have become less social.
I find people I meet online now went from a younger age group to everyone being in their 30-50s it's kinda funny.

Its definitely felt different and rough in the worst ways. With all the different sites for posting they all break up into little kingdoms. I hate posting on social media as it is and prefer the communities on Discord. It feels like now you are in a minefield until you figure out who's good and who's bad but eh, it is what it is.

Even then the little discords, everyones got their own, myself included and you just gotta keep swipin an swipin. I understand why some people live on vr chat/sl
