Man, did the internet get harder or is it just me?

I am often streaming come bother me on stream some time.
I'm sort of yelling into the void right now. Totally understand if you wana toss this away, but I kinda gotta get it off ma chest.
Did the internet get harder? Or am I just getting older?
Back in the day you'd be able to just try being friends with people, it feels like when I was worse people were more friendly to me? Everyone used to just chat shit and shoot their shot now everyone is scared that any and all interactions gets archived for future blackmail, yknow what I mean?
Maybe I'm losing it.
Maybe it's because everywhere is so split now.
Ya got Twitter, Bsky, Discord, NG, Fa, DA, whatever fucking site you wana put your stuff up that's flavour of the week. What's it now, vgen?
Somethin like that.
Feels like you put more attention in one. I mean i'll admit. I totally do the same. Most my brain dump thoughts kinda go over on twitter now because sometimes its easier to dump in 250 char. And maybe I copy paste it to Bsky.
But it's also so awkward to sometimes find news from people because ya feed gets completely swamped with crap nowadays its a massive overload. I genuinely miss the days of forums.

What terrible behaviour and sorry they did that to you. There's folks who will sacrifice decades of friendship over a scrap of attention from somebody they idolize, too.
I remember one guy who hated my guts cos I thought steven universe was stupid. So I know your pain.
Still what a silly thing to throw a wobbly over. Unless if they're actively trying to tear you down for something you enjoy, it shouldn't be a source of grief.
I got this whole hate boner for that weird era of cartoons where all the cool ones kinda turned into tumblr fanfics and dropped the fun adventure side of it.
Amazing world of gumball still slaps do.
Having tastes for various things is a good thing though.
Like flea said, so much stuff splitting up and to many things to keep ontop of etc.
We all gave each other shit, but same time, it wasn't all 'every action will be scrutinized to death and archived as potential weapons to use on you later.'
The burying us all in newsfeed stuff is easily something that distracts folks with the rampant attention problems people have been encouraged to have. It's hard to hold a conversation with anyone without them trying to feel they have to do 3-4 things at same time/'need' to do that stuff.
They're not even enjoying any of the things they split their attention on, either. As opposed to focusing on one thing to give it full focus so they can enjoy it, y'know?
Once fanfic toppled, Live Journal was the place to be, until Tumblr came around.
What I'm trying to say, is that the population and engagement of platforms absolutely relies on the moderation teams.
When Tumblr decided to ban adult gifs, and video, their population plummeted.
Catering to an audience is just a part of advertising now.
Didn't a bunch of other ones die from bad moderation/being sold off too? Like uh..Imgur I think and what was the other...
Imgur, and Tinyurl have been sold / bought by profit junkies, which is pretty depressing.
Hell I get ignored by a fair few people simply because I've got a piratical themed thing on discord...
I guess Discord feels like the most forum like to me. Can't wait for them to fuck it up!
The closest thing we got to a new platform recently is Kick. Bluesky is ok.
But bluesky is just a fucking bootleg twitter. It doesn't have anything of it's own to make it stand out. If it had a gallery option, shit would do numbers.
Then again, we all are getting old. Then again then again, I feel no one's happy about the situation.
I find people I meet online now went from a younger age group to everyone being in their 30-50s it's kinda funny.
