Custom Thumbnails?

So...how do they work around here? I've uploaded some stuff that needs a few CWs and so I added custom thumbnails to make sure anyone clicking through to my gallery would be properly warned.
Except that no matter how many times I try to upload a custom thumb absolutely nothing happens and the pic is still fully shown...am I doing something wrong or is this just not working?

What really annoys me is that there's plenty of other sites out there that show how it could be done. Just...FA is still in the late '90s and will probably never improve.
