Do journals help advertise?

Hii I've never used a journal to advertise/ talk to people before but I kinda would love to talk to people...but I see that a lot of people follow use journals to throw out what they have posted before so I'm wondering if they work? Let me know your experiences ? Do you feel like you can get closer to the artist through a small interaction like this? ;-; help
