OC creating: looking for thoughts, ideas, inspiration etc

Heya folks! thanks for reading/following!
So, I thought I'd put this out there since I'm new to FA and trying to sort of put a bit more work into my profile, so I'm hoping to fill it all out a bit more.
I'd also like to decide on an OC to at least put some kind of face or personality onto my profile, and maybe give me a bit more inspiration on my future art and stuff like that.
I've drawn this golden Lab a few times so I figure that might be as good a place to start as any, but I'm having trouble putting it all together. So I guess what I'm asking is: how do you all put your stuff together in your head? Do you start with a name, or a look, or a personality? Do you have any tips for someone in the midst of creating an OC on how to bring it all together? Let me hear your thoughts!

from there I feel a good OC is something that better reflects your personality and interests, or something you want to be. Names can be telling or hinting at the character's nature or desires or can just be what sounds right to their look. Personality is something that is developed over time to be something you feel is a good fit!
