So a little head canon on this one - changelings. there are different types. Drones/Soldiers, ones with pupiless eyes. A few more, but here we see Mother. Specific changelings that can reproduce, this female was once full of her young, oh about 3 or 4. But she would waddle around until she found a female to can continue gestating the eggs. That one if not bound in the hive is drugged, then stuffed full of eggs. Some other chemicals in the exchange of the eggs causes the host mother to 'accept' them. This host mother will provide a nice place for the eggs to continue to grow. Not so tightly restricted like the changeling mother. Now this 'surrogacy' is not always done, sometimes these mother will lay their eggs in pools, for further gestation, but it takes longer then acquiring a host mother. In fact the oblivious host mother will swell to full term within a couple months. She will then lay the eggs, and pass out, a chemical released from the birth. The changeling mother will then come by and collect her brood, and if it is possible re-impregnate the host mother. These mothers will also sometimes check up on her young. Or to just place a hoof on the host mother;s taught belly and only dream to imagine that that is her laying there.

This is not a very efficient process of reproduction, thus the need for a Queen. Oh and out host mother is Reshirina, a ponified Reshiram.
