Police Dog Chapter 2: The Scent of Blood
There is only one police officer in the small town of West Woodburn, England. His name is Forty-Two, and he is a Dog. Genetically engineered and bred to conform to the ideal standard, he can do anything a human can. His kind are so dedicated to their task that society no longer sees any reason to pay for human police.
Forty-Two's quiet, rural life is shattered when a murderer begins stalking everyone the Dog has ever called friend.
The greatest scientific advancements come from war, and the Dog program is no exception. Originally developed as living weapons for World War II, it wasn't long after that they were repurposed to their current role. It's only been fifty years, and not all men have forgotten that Dogs, like their masters, fought on both sides.
Forty-Two must track down the killer and suppress the case before an inquiry can be launched. Any investigation into Forty-Two's own past would reveal that he too has secrets to hide. While he is far too young to have any memories of war, Forty-Two's unmasking would destroy all confidence in the Dogs that now carry the justice system.
The night passes, and with it comes another death. A murder. With it the hot, sticky stench of fresh blood comes to fill the air.
Forty-Two must fight the creature he has become to do his duty and avenge the death of his only friend.

Good chapter. Police Dogs has a different feel from your other stories, though I'm not sure how to explain it. The execution is the same but... well it's hard to explain with only two chapters out. Maybe it's just because I actually have to read it chapter by chapter this time that it feels different. I only had to wait on the latter half of LBtaL before.
Way to tease us though, you keep so much hidden! I thought the blood thing was like them avoiding a serious plague, cause it seemed like everyone was avoiding it, but was it just him? Is he unable to control himself around blood? I have a few guesses, but there's no point in saying them here. Besides, knowing you, even if I turn out to be right there will still be some sort of catch I didn't think of :P. The mystery is the story's strong point right now though so keep it up!

Thanks for the compliment!
My lips are sealed, but I will say it's not plague. Forty-Two is...
All will come clear in time. Or perhaps it won't.
And I do agree, stories take on a very different flavor when you're forced to read them one chapter at a time. It's like eating one french fry at a time vs a whole baked potato.
