I just got this little (okay not so little) guy in the mail today.
This little zebra came from a small zoo in Missouri. This skull belonged to a 9 month old individual who, tragically, died of an aneurysm at his young age. His molars have cracks in them from him clacking his teeth together during said aneurysm caused a seizur. Rather then let the poor guy's passing be the end of it...his natural beauty was preserved. Nothing went to waste, even the skin was tanned professionaly for preservation.
This animal's death was natural. He wasn't killed for me, nor for his skull. If you don't like it, don't look at it.

I felt sad for him. But was relieved at the same time that his death was natural and he wasn't killed for taxidermy. I hate to see juvies taken for this.
I'm so happy to have a Zebra! I wasn't sure I felt comfortable owning a horse (the whole domestic thing I was telling you about) But I really want a shteland pony/mini horse skull, and maybe a draft horse. The tiniest and the largest would be very cool to see in comparisson.

I've a few skulls that show signs of very old age, so I strongly believe they died of old age/natural causes. I had a ewe that had to be put down because of her health on a farm, a possum that died in a guy's barn, and a yote that keeled over from age. (his teeth are very warn down)
Yes, its upsetting when a life is lost so early on, so young. But as you say, such is nature. It can't be helped.
I want a potbelly pig skull for the same reason LoL

I see, well thank you for sharing nonetheless. Very cool! I crave unusual collections and curiosities of nature but because I move all the time my collection is down to several wolf vertebrae, maybe a fox face or two, and a damaged silver phase fox pelt (It was prime, all paws and claws and tail but a former roommate's dog chewed it and some kids pulled the tail off..). One day my collection will grow! With a skull such as this do you have CITES tags or anything?
Certain species of Zebra (unlike this one) are CITES species. This particular piece is not on the listing. And 9 times out of 10 the only reason you would need CITES is for international shipments. Within the country CITES (for most but not all species) is not necessary. Always check the records to make sure if you ever are in doubt.
