10 x 14 color pencil
This is pretty much finished but I will probably be going back in and touch up a couple things after it sits for a few days. I hate back grounds! I wish I knew how to do something simple. The dunes and sky were quick and easy, but the rocks! Stupid rocks! I hate rocks!
Still learning to do shadows. MEH!
Had fun doing him and this won't be my last oryx or antelope.
***CRAPPY CAMERA SHOT! LOST REZ AND SOME COLOR. The usuall.
I said I was going to post a short story with this piece, well, it is about 85% done and I will post soon. :)
****Critique is always welcome. It is one of my greatest learning tools.****

They are large but still might be a pray species,(lions, sentient or not) so if they are sentient, I see them learning how to make weapons and defend them selves. Plus, instead of human African tribesman/warriors, The oryx would be there in their stead. You think of early African natives. Warriors usually come to mind.
Ohh, thanks for the insight! Btw, my other suit is an Oryx: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3262/.....8d18b065_z.jpg (On the right)
great atmosphere, and full of interestign details. like the body paintings, or the sparse jewelry, and especially the hands. must be the first time I see the fifth finger shrunken back to just a stump with mini-hoof.
also, great work on the rocks. they look like molten lava scraped smooth by millenias of sand-filled winds. you have so much more patience with backgrounds, I'm kind of jealous! at some point I would have started to frantically abstrahize rocks and dunes before I lose it all and just declare the piece finished...
I also appreciated you posting the WIPs, too. interestign to see how other artists work. :)
