When Drax was searching for a rare mineral he was betrayed by his guide and his accomplices. When Drax had his back to them they attacked him and threw him over a cliff in an attempt to hide the damage and claim it was an accident.
What they didn't know is that the nanobots in his body revived and healed him. Now he have tracked them down and wants revenge. Drax uses his ability to manipulate dark energy to stop them. The side effect of using dark enegy is that it manifests itself on his body as black fire and lightning.
