This concept for the cover to "Von Herling, Vampire Hunter" came out much better than I expected. I have to work out a better background though and the kukri knife in Von Herling's hand needs to be redone.
When conceiving the cover to Von Herling, I had a few different ideas. I originally thought of a more action-packed cover similar to the boxes to the Castlevania video games. However, I decided on something different: an emotional connection. One of the themes of Gothic horror is isolation, both physical and social. I'm sure that's something we can all relate to. It works well right here. Our young hero is all by himself out in the wilderness with jagged mountains in the background. He stands alone against the unholy menace that is the vampire. All he has to count on is him and him alone.
It works well here. I'll need to come up with a value and color study eventually.
