Aedi the mermaid.
Drawn on a lark back in February 2007. Given those @%#$ stupid starfish around April because, despite her lack of naughty bits, people kept going "ZOMG TOPLESS GURL! @_@" upon reaching that page in my sketchbook. (I hate the starfish. I find it hard to believe any self-respecting sentient aqautic creature would voluntarily strap cold unyielding seashells or sandpaper-y starfish to any part of their anatomy. At the same time, *I* was the idiot what didn't think to give her a shell necklace or seaweed veil or less compromising pose in the first place, so the blame rests entirely on me. And, having colored the whole thing, I do agree that the starfishless version seems drably monochromatic. REALLY should have given her a necklace or sommat....)
...Anyways. Rants aside, I had fun playing with this one. She's perhaps the fourth sea creature I've ever drawn, AND I got to play around with light sources and etcetera. So, alles gutes.
...except those gills. Do not use sharks as gill references. Bad Jennies! *whacks with newspaper*

Beautiful, it's so hard to do good underwater lighting in the darker depths, without making it look bad against your merfolk... (or without darkening them so they're almost unseeable xp) But you did it amazingly in this ^^
And I completely agree about the top.. Fish don't have anything naughty there anyhow, and shells and seaweed would itch, most clothe would be restrictive and get caught too easy underwater, and living things (or dead ones for that matter) is just weird.. ._.; But people get so offended over it if you leave them topless x-x

Thanks :)
As for tops....Aye. People get weird about the strangest things....
I like how you handled it on your char - the pose, highlight glare, and flow of her necklace combine to de-emphasize / draw the eyes to the rest of the picture (her fins, face, necklace charms...). I need to learn to use composition to my advantage like that. ^_^;
