I've been thinking a bit about my time in High School Marching Band lately. This is my senior year, and I guess you can say I'm having a sort of withdrawal from Marching Season. It's especially bittersweet because I probably won't have the same experiences ever, even once I'm off to college. This is pretty much one of those nostalgia pieces.
Well, enough of my moping. Here's my 'sona in full Marching Band Attire, almost 100% accurate to my school uniform. Almost, because, well, you can't wear marching shoes with hooves. Enjoy!

I know how you feel. Band's just a different thing. it's not a class, it's not a sport, it's not an extracurricular. It's just band. Directors are far beyond teachers, and bandmates are far more than classmates. I've known plenty of kids in band who say the same things. They despise school despite being pretty much the most sensible and intelligent people there, and refused to leave for somewhere else because of band. I know I've felt that way about things many a time.
Best of luck on going for Section Leader! As an unofficial section leader, I know it's a tough process. But most importantly, make sure to have tons of fun! Senior Year in band can seem like a whole new experience for you. I don't want to say much more on that, because I want to make sure you experience everything your own way.
Oh, what do you play?

Sweet! I'm a trumpeter too! *high-fives* I was starting to think you might have played sax. There's a guy in my band we call Gary the Penguin. :P
It's nuts how vicious band camp is compared to the rest of it. It's the closest thing to some twisted masochism marchers get. XD
This year it was pretty bad because Band Camp just happened to fall on the days we had the worst heat wave the whole summer. And we hardly got any water breaks. D:

The only stable weather I guess we've got in common is the nippy tendency of the last quarter of the year. But the colder it is, the better the weather is for marching. Either you're sweating like mad in our uniforms, or your freezing in the sweat from earlier in the day. XD
I don't mean ubercold...I mean, more towards the low 60s or so. I call that the perfect weather to be dressed in sheets of coarse, thick wool and not be hopelessly uncomfortable. I don't think I've had a day like that ever happen...must be something in the places a few hours north of here where you really see that, up in your latitudes, although, in all honesty, isn't that far apart from us in a geographical scale of things...
Have you ever had a monsoon erupt during one of your shows? We were playing at a competition and it was raining so hard and fast that the rain was moving horizontal. And this was before we had uniforms, and we had these crappy tracksuits. Now, you'd think they'd be waterproof. Well...they were quite the opposite. XD
