Time for a quick history lesson!
Though the brassiere had already arguably existed before that in various forms, it was in 1913 that a teenage socialite named Mary Phelps Jacob patented the first modern bra.
Her innovation essentially meant that women would no longer have to put up with the painfulness of wearing a corset - though I've heard a bra isn't that comfortable to wear either! Thing is it does serve a practical purpose for women, especially if one is into a sports. That said, one of my pals said that bras exist because it's exciting to see girls take them off! Lol. From my point of view, as a guy, I think the most reliable answers would come from members of the fairer sex themselves since they actually tend to wear these garments. I just don't think it is polite to ask them!

My obgyn said its better to be braless for those reasons, expecialy if you havent had kids yet. Bras are ment to morph the boobs to 'always look happy' as in up and 'in place'. However, gravity reacts badly with this. While the girl is pushing them up, gravity is pulling them down even more than if they were naturaly in place. A common side effect of this is one boob growing bigger than the other. Most girls wont addmit it, but their boobs are different sizes.
At FC me and some friends walked past this biggish woman who wasn't wearing a bra and I heard one of my pals comment to us "FFS, wear a bra!" XD. I agree that they provide practical purposes and thus do have a place. ^^. It is just like I don't like seeing guys wearing their trousers hanging down well below their waist=P
