F5 FOR LARGER VERSION CAUSE I DERPED
Small notes I forgot to add:
There are male and female folkin, but any combination of two folkin can create an egg.
Males folkin have an extra pair of canine teeth at the front of the mouth that grown longer than their other teeth as they age. These two teeth usually end up becoming blunted 'fangs' but this is the only visual difference between genders.
While any gender combo can produce eggs, a male+female combination will have the best chance at being fertile. Females develop thicker, stronger feather protection over the egg pouch, and males have stronger arm muscles to grind their special ingredient into a finer powder.
If an egg is not fertile, after it has been exposed to air for a few moments the shell will crumble into pieces and the fur and feather bundle will be inside the shell's remains.
It is considered extremely bad luck to try and create another egg using the same bundle of fur and feathers. Most communities have a communal 'burial' site for infertile egg components.
Also, the egg pouch in the throat is not able to open until folkin have become young adults. Once they have grown old enough to be called elders, the egg pouch seals closed and they can no longer create an egg in their own body.
The 'special ingredient' can have an effect on gender, patterning, coloration and/or personality in the hatchling that is unseen in either parent.
