Personal - When in Jerusalem...
~~~
...do as Muzafr does.
Me. Hehe.
First thing I did in Israel was buy my keffiyeh, (aka my Swag Rag, I never leave home without it,) and my thobe. Best thobe ever. It's white, and opaque. Can't ask for anything better. Anyway, best purchases ever. If you ever get to Israel, I recommend getting the gear. Or just go with me, I'll get you /in/ places, man. And also order for you the best seafood you'll ever eat. And make sure you don't get reamed by the masjid aunties, but that's another story entirely.
This pic screams me. XD Background picture obviously taken by myself. Robe/thobe based off my actual robe/thobe...pose/shading reffed from a pic of me irl wearing that same robe/thobe. It was so funny, I was looking at a pic and synthesized another photo in for the ground, (quick job, just for the effect,) and I was in the background and I showed up behind Muzafr here, and except for the obvious dragon parts, the similarities were pleasingly perfect.
Expect some more casually-posing Muzafr pics. Part of a large project I'm working on. Feels good to do some personal art.
Ma' ahla al-Quds!!!
Commissions are open, yah.
Peace!
(Muzafr is my sona - do not use this design/char/piece in any way, shape, or form, or you'll be paid a visit from Nikki and Slav, and their respective bayonets.)
You'd probably have to go through a private instructor/classes to do so. I know there are some trainers in the US, and I have looked into an actual group that trains just outside of Jerusalem. But to have actual Israeli /officials/ teach it...eh, not so sure if they'd do that. XD
Oh man, that's so cool! ^^ I was actually invited to stay in Egypt, but about a week afterward, ehm...Arab Spring kind of happened. And Syria, too, man. :( I actually have a pilgrimage I need to make there, so I'm hoping to do so...sometime in my lifetime.
Ah, I wish I had kept the packing mine came in, because it's both white, and opaque, which was good because usually white isn't so nice, hehe. I totally recommend grabbing one or two, they are sooo comfy, and the pockets are massive! XD
Oh yeah, it's all epic. I mean, we were so far north, I could have walked to either Lebanon or Syria. And we went to the Golan on numerous occasions. And I actually spent a lot of time in Jerusalem alone, (even at night,) and I felt perfectly safe - could not say the same about some small towns close to me.
Oh yeah. XD. I took a solo trip to Jerusalem one day via rail, and the train I took had the signs, announcements, and everything in /only/ Hebrew, which I can read to an extent. Though I'm about fluent in Arabic, I learned Hebrew really quickly that day. XD
Thanks! Though Muzafr is of my own design, there's actually quite a long history of dragons depicted in Islamic art - mostly with Eastern influences on ceramics, etc. My favourite Islamic dragon piece is of the Prophet (saw) himself taming a dragon. :D
I could not agree more about the keffiyeh! I own three of them and I never leave home without one. I used to live in the Chihuahuan desert of southwestern U.S. and though it's not as hot as Israel, the light weight, white cotton clothes and white keffiyeh makes a world of difference. Now that I live in colder and wetter climates, the keffiyeh is still incredibly useful. Love the piece, wonderful 'sona, and look forward to more of your work! <^.=.^>
Wow, very lovely! And I agree about the keffiyeh, I have one that's white-on-black and I never leave home without it (if I remember to even grab it when I'm running late XD) I love how you can wear it when it's hot or when it's time for Salat you can cover your head to be modest ^_^ Only disadvantage are those annoying threads that come loose >_< But yeah, if you go to Israel and don't by a thobe or keffiyeh, you wasted a great opportunity. Also, I'm afraid to ask, masajid aunties? That doesn't sound good XD
Thanks a lot! The simple ones are the best, because they're really open to customization and decoration as well, hehe. I love all my thobes... If you're looking to get one, I recommend al-Dafa brand - that's my favourite brand and actually the one I'm drawn to be wearing in this pic, (when I was actually in Jerusalem last summer too, hehe.) Most amazing things ever...very silky, very durable, and they're both white...and opaque! Which is impossible to find in the land of thobes, hahaha.
^^ If I find that brand floating around online I'll give it a look, sadly for me cause of two things hindering me to travel international wise I can't go over there ;3; the Mediterranean area is one of my favorite places within the Historical, Cultural and Natural parts of the world and I would give anything to at least go over to some of my favorite destinations and places before I die. *chuckles* eh, I'm more of a blue person myself though if there isn't one of that color(s) then I don't mind either way. I would like to get something that's more 'splash of life' in a way when it comes to summer (planning to get or make a yukata soon myself to start off.~)
Ah man, I hope you can make it over there someday! I can't recommend Israel enough, there's just soooo much, it's mind-blowing! There are some places in the region that I myself want to visit, however, unfortunately, the, erm...place I want to go is kind of having a civil war at the moment. Which is another reason I'd actually want to go now because I want to see what I want to see before it's destroyed!!! God forbid... *shudders*
Al-Dafa does make different colours, and there are actually a bunch of websites that sell thobes in different colours, from pastels to really deep colours. ^^
*chuckles* I don't know, I mean Isreal would be cool but ya, that area the most has so much turmoil it makes me sad deeply. But the other places I would like to see is Cairo, Istanbul, Athens.. Heheh well just exploring the countries all together, that would make my life worth while.~ But I do hope that the civil war or just this whole turmoil of that part will stop.
Ohh~ got any known sites on top of your list?~ X3 But I'll look though to see if I can find any for a good price or deal. It would be a cool little collection for me to have and wear when I feel like doing so. ^^~
Israel was actually insanely peaceful when I was there. Our media is really excellent as presenting it like you'll get shot if you walk down the street, but it's not like that at all. I was walking around alone at night, and I felt safer there than on my own local campus.
Hmm, I can't recall any of the sites off the top of my head, but there was a few - different sites have different things and options for sale, so it's just good to kind of browse around to find the site that has what you'd like and also for the price you want. ^^
That is true on the media part but sometimes even though hey over exaggerate something, here and there there's a slight hint of truth, but I know once in a while for a good period of time they do have some peace. But that's a nice feeling, I live in a small town yet I don't like walking even during the day time cause how people are around here so feeling that self security would be a nice touch really.
Plus my only luck's on ebay but still I did find a good few that look pretty~ And not bad of a price but don't have the money yet to get one for my own -3-;
