Pride is a nasty thing, and Nessa here has plenty of it.
She's the strongest among her age in her clan, and she knows it, boasting and bragging about her strength and talent. She's even managed to beat some of the older fighters.
One of the cousin clans were visiting from their much colder home. Some of the ones close to her age heard of Nessa's strength and challenged her. She accepted and got her tail handed to her. Due to her pride and status in her clan, she turns out to be very poor loser. Though, one kid from her clan admires and looks up to her and figures he'd try to cheer her up with a flower. It works for his mother, why not her?
