I thought a great idea would be to have an isolator switch in the circuit box for the childs bedroom, so when you send them to their room only their light works. Also something similar with the internet connection, be it wired or wireless :) Either that or they have to spend their time in the most boring room in the house, not very productive though I'll admit.

By beating do you mean spank, or as in hitting with a closed fist repeatedly? Some parents never knew the difference, some still don't.
I agree by all means that there has to be some physical element, but so many parents just use it as an easy way to discipline their kids and don't make the distinction between a small infraction and a big issue, it's just 5 across the eyes each time.

I got an ipod for the kid, it's from 2005, memory of 6gb and the battery is fully dead, I'll just wait for the kid to open the door or window....then run.

I seen the same kind of thing up here too... I think this is what you get when parents try to be their children's friend and not their parent. We also have to many kids and people as a whole think they are owed something for nothing.

Was the car running? If it was raining, good ol' Dad left the keys in the ignition to keep the AC going, the car warm and the kid listening to music...

It would also depend on the make of the car? These days with remote keyless entry or starting why need keys in the first place. Though it probably wasn't one of those newer Buicks that let you remote control your car from a smart phone.

5th gen iPod maybe. Those are pretty pricey. I was looking at them to replace my 30Gig 3rd gen ipod and it was 3 hundred dollars for the smallest one (which was 5 times the space I have now, but the old one errors out when I sync it with a USB 3.0 port).

In any case hope she gets denied excess to all entertainment based technology for at least 2 weeks to 2 months depending on her age (time seems to pass much slower when you're younger).

This is why I am very picky about the guys I date. If he starts agreeing with me everytime I disagree with him and tries to pamper me then how would he have any kind of backbone against his daughter.

This is why I always carry a spare key. Usually on a separate key ring. I also hide a key somewhere on the car. ...Next to the battery, close to the fuse box. So the electricals can be disabled. (Drat! Now I've gotta find a better stash spot.)

Heh. It truly IS sad how dependent/demanding/reliant we have become of our microwaved internet/celluar/wifi/conveinience society. I fear the day when that huge non-mobile infrastructure (towers,transmitters, & T-1 lines, etc.) collapses and renders all these little electronic bricks useless. Think about it.

We could stil play Jenga with them....couldn't we? Oddly enough mobile phones were the one bit of tech I couldn't get into, mine stays off and in it's case, battery lasts about 3 months between charges XD

You know, it's a good thing I don't have kids, nor want to have any. Mostly because when I was growing up, I had a father who was abusive, and I know that deep inside when pushed really hard I can be as nasty and abusive as he was. I've tried very hard to keep that part buried in concrete for good reason... and would never want to inflict what I went through on anyone else. Having said that, I have to wonder what it is with today's kids that they can demand whatever they want. I usually had to go out and earn whatever I wanted, and pay for it myself as I knew my father wouldn't. But today, no, kids act like we're abusing them if we don't give them a smartphone or an iPod touch, or an Xbox, or a new computer...
