Wait 24-48 hours for the clay to dry enough so it wont change is shape easily (save money by buying modelling clay that does not air dried so you can re-use it) Then cover it in plaster tape, I suggest 3 layers for a good strength. But make sure the previous layer is still wet when applying the next layer so they stick together
