"barrier"...I thought so too, but exactly, there is a few different nuance between the words. In Japanese language, they are discriminated actually...("barrier"＝バリアー).
It seems that the word 結界(Sanskrit: sima-bandha, Probably means like "sealed boundary". 結=tie, bind, sealed...etc, 界=boundary, field, world...etc) is not always barrier.
