Played Both; New Vegas is more "Fallout" to me than Fallout 3. (Played the original 2; and fell in love with the series from the start) New Vegas improved on a lot of features from 3; particularly removing the "all-or-nothing" one-shot "chance" dialogue options >.<
In New Vegas; I loved the durn thing so much; I made several different characters, and even kinda started role-playing them to be certain ways. My 'physical build' character "Max" is probably my absolute favorite; capable of beating down a Deathclaw unarmed! (Oh yes; totally did that. Got attacked after fast travel; and had forgotten my weapon had broken! Quite the surprise that not only was Max able to fend it off and survive; he survived the ordeal well [taking only about 12% damage])
There is nothing quite like running up and lopping off an enemy's arm as they go to draw their gun and shoot XD

With all the DLC; you have access to some wicked new weapons, some nifty mods, and you start with like a veritable ARSENAL XD

I'm ALMOST all the way through all the DLC; still gotta get my copy back so I can finish them out... Though I had a bit of a geeky 'squee' moment when I recognized Mr. House was voiced by Rene Auberjonois; A.K.A. "Odo" from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine X3
