His wife, Luna, fell ill from a mysterious disease and Luke vowed he'd finish their journey while finding a cure. He does end up finding a cure and Luna rejoins her husband. Luke's appearance is based on a Luxray, his original pokemon, and Luna is based on her original pokemon Empoleon.
