Though I suspect graphing paper like that really helps you with practicing proportions with your work?

You did a great job. Traditional pen and paper art work always seems to have more little details that you can't reproduce using a digital sketch pad, it also comes across as a lot more careful and precision work since erasing isn't as simple as hitting the erase tab on a toolbar.
