The Samurai 3000 Tanto has a blade Thickness of 3/16". Created of 420 J2 stainless steel, the blade is sharp. The handle material is of precisely machined metal with brushed metal finish. Push tang (1/2 length) construction. Tanto includes scabbard made of aluminum with precisely machined metal parts. (pulled off a site)
Well... possibly high carbon steel, selectively hardened is well... of course it must be sharpened properly. I saw a katana without decorational elements but made of quite good steel for about hmm 400$... maybe it's much but I recalculated it from our Polish currency and probably there is shipping included and so on, so that the real price may be lower. There is only one drawback of carbon steel because special care to the blade is needed...
I think I have the entire set :)
Found it across the border(IE: in Sweden) a couple of years back. Tanto, Wakizashi and Katana.
It's nice and swishy, but as others said - Stainless steel isn't for other than show.
On the other hand, it's nice and shiny and nice :D
Also; a tip if you're into that sort of stuff.-Don't try to "unscrew" the top.. it does come off.. and it's a bitch to get back on.
