Never been into horror games, but I eventually played Dead Space 1 and I found I liked it, despite the regular scares that I hate so much. The universe interested me, and what kept me really going was finding out what had happened on the Ishimura, how those things had come to be.
Dead Space 2 also had an interesting setting, the story also made me want to keep going though it felt like the emphasis was a tad more on action.
Have seen video from the Dead Space 3 demo and I honestly feel like its a Gears of War copy. A damn good franchise is slowly being turned into a generic third person shooter. Damn you *Glares at EA*

Okay, I played DS3, it doesn't feel like "Gears of War" at all, you manually have to hide behind cover, as in, you don't press a simple button to go behind it, you actually crouch, and walk behind the cover.
Also, Visceral Games made the game, EA is trying to screw it up with micro-transactions, so Visceral fought back and put bugs in the game on purpose for everyone to get unlimited resources.
