I have that problem with photographing, and what I've started doing is I take several photos, use the one that looks best, and then go into Gimp (which I have because it's free.... :) There's a Convolve tool in Gimp with the option of blur or sharpen. You can sharpen the areas that need it using a brush in Gimp.
