It was an average day for a Rescue Team such as Team Upspark. The team leader, Yuri Volten, had his curious eyes glued to the wanted poster for about five minutes, deep in concentration. Standing aside him, positioned on each side, were his two teammates, A Nidorino and a Chansey. They too were giving the poster an inquisitive glance, albeit not as intensively.
"Well, he certainly looks like a bad guy," Nido the Nidorino remarked, eyes scanning over the wanted picture of a Mienshao. "Isn't this guy one of those Unova Pokemon?"
"I think so," the Chansey, Dani, unsurely responded, not being the expert on Pokemon from neighbouring regions. "Are we really going to go after this outlaw, boss?"
“Well, I have been thinking about it, actually,” Yuri replied with a nervous smile, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. “I am up for you it if you guys are up for it. I may be your leader, but I won’t force you two on a mission you hate.”
“What are you talking about, boss?” Nido asked, producing a grin. “We are game for whatever job you want to put us on.”
“You did say you wanted to be as famous and respected as your father’s team, right?” Dani asked, placing on a smile of her own.
“Of course I do, but not at the risk of you two,” Yuri informed the two, his ears drooping.
In response, Nido lightly nudged the doubtful Pikachu. “Didn’t you say only moments ago you were only up for this job if we were?” he inquired.
“Yeah, I did say that, but...” His unsure frown curled up into a thankful smile. “Thank you, guys...I’ll see the guild master about accepting this mission.”
Meanwhile in a forest not too far from the town Yuri and his team were busy discussing their laudable business in, a Mienshao was standing on a rock, punching at the air. His name was Sho, a no-nonsense fighter with a vendetta clogging up his weekly schedule. There was a certain Pokemon he wanted to make pay and give him a one-way ticket to a world of suffering. The same place he was unfortunately lunged into after an unfair defeat.
“Darn it all,” he cussed, sighing in frustration. “Punching and kicking the air only makes me look more like an idiot than anything else! I need a living target to practice pummelling!”
Sho hopped down and retrieved a brown bag from behind it, throwing it over his shoulder. He then set off towards the nearest town, hoping to fulfil his needs, his mood still hovering over the grouchy side. It only took ten minutes before he reached the outskirts of the human-like civilisation of Pokemon, busy participating in their own lives.
“Finally,” Sho commented. “This place doesn’t look like much, but hey, who am I to complain?”
“Stop right there!” the voice of Yuri boldly declared.
The Mienshao nonchalantly glanced to his right and saw Yuri and his two team members standing there, shooting him an unfriendly glare. The Pikachu leader’s cheeks were sparkling with his body electricity.
“What do you guys want?” Sho inquired with a raised eyebrow.
“I am Yuri Leon Volten from Team Upspark and we are here to place you under arrest, outlaw!” Yuri valiantly explained, pointing at Sho while putting on a determined face.
“Um, boss, stating your full name isn’t really necessary,” Nido noted.
“Are you serious, you pathetic rat?!” Sho snarled at the goggles wearing rodent. “Who the heck do you think you are?!”
“Didn’t you just hear us, outlaw? We are Team Upspark!” Yuri reiterated, his cheeks sparking more wildly.
“I don’t care what you three decide to call yourself!” Sho shouted back, swiftly shifting his posture into a fighting one. “If you get in my way, I will take all three of you down!”
“Well, that certainly confirms our suspicions about this guy!” Nido exclaimed, preparing himself for the inevitable brawl.
“Dani, since this guy is a Fighting-Type, keep your distance and attack from afar!” Yuri strategized with his Chansey team mate before looking over at Nido. “Nido, attack him if he knocks me down!”
Sho sneered and launched himself at Yuri, his leg outstretched for a Hi Jump Kick. “I am in NO mood to play cops and robbers with novice Rescue Team idiots!” he declared with a growl.
Yuri rolled out of the way just in time, causing the Mienshao to miss and suffer the negative effects of his attack. Sho quickly recovered, flinching only slightly from his self-inflected pain before leaping high up into the air. Yuri unleashed numerous bolts of his electricity at the airborne foe. However, Sho managed to evade every attempt the white cheeked mouse made.
“What is he trying to do?” Dani worryingly inquired.
“Everyone, keep on your guard!” Yuri warned, firing off another one of his Thunderbolts.
All of a sudden, Sho began to plummet at a fast rate, narrowly avoiding Yuri’s last Thunderbolt which harmlessly shot over his head. He crashed down on Yuri, slamming him to the ground with his Bounce move. Even though it was a Flying-Type attack, Yuri still painfully received a large amount of damage.
“Boss!” Nido shouted, running towards the threatening Mienshao, his head tilted downward, revealing his glowing horn.
Sho grinned and turned his attention to the hastily approaching Nidorino. He made a downward hand gesture, causing a barrage of big, sharp rocks to rain down on Nido.
“Nido, watch out!” Dani shouted out.
Nido got bombarded by the Stone Edge and collapsed to the ground. He tried to get back up, but was denied by Sho who violently knocked into him with his U – Turn. This hard-hitting, super effective assault sent the unfortunate Nidorino tumbling backwards into Dani.
“I hope this has taught you a lesson!” Sho said, crossing his arms and smirking in smug victory. “Just feel grateful that I am in a good mood.”
The Mienshao’s haughty attitude was cut abruptly short as Yuri swung his glowing, metalized tail at his sides, dealing a sneaky Iron Tail. Sho dropped to his knees and clutched his wound, his teeth grinding in anger.
“You shouldn’t have turned your back on me, outlaw!” Yuri declared after landing on his all fours, almost losing balance due to his recent injuries. “We are not to be taken lightly!”
Sho growled and briefly glanced over his shoulder at Dani and Nido getting back to their feet, injured, but just as prepared for a second wind as their Pikachu boss. “What is your problem anyway, rat?!” Sho snarled, his attention drawn back to Yuri. “What did I do wrong? Why are you and your do-gooder friends treating me like I did something bad?”
“Don’t act innocent!” shouted Yuri, lifting up his goggles to take out a crumbled up piece of paper hidden behind the lens. “You are an outlaw wanted by the authorities and any willing Rescue Team!” he further explained, straightening out the paper, which turned out to be the very same wanted poster he was looking at earlier, for Sho to see.
“What? Is that supposed to me?” Sho asked, insulted by such a claim. “It looks nothing like me! You should trade in those goggles for a pair of glasses, rat!”
“Yes, I admit the picture isn’t that clear, but you attacking us for no reason is clear enough for us!” Yuri snapped.
Dani threw an Egg Bomb at Sho. It glided over her boss’s head, but was effortlessly swatted away by the Mienshao adversary.
“Excuse me? If I recall, YOU wanted to attack me FIRST!” Sho reminded the trio. “I merely threatened to attack only if YOU tried to foolishly mess with me!”
“If you really were innocent, you wouldn’t have made such a threat in the first place!” Dani irately informed Sho.
“I was in a bad mood, you idiot; and you are just making me even angrier with your false accusations!” Sho roared, unleashing another Stone Edge at the daring bunch.
Fortunately for Yuri and his friends, they managed to dodge the onslaught of rocks hailing from above. Yuri retaliated with his Iron Tail, knocking Sho to the ground. It took no time at all for Sho to get back to his feet, instantly breaking into a Hi Jump Kick. This time, it not only landed a hit on its Pikachu target, but also scored a critical hit.
“Yuri!” Dani and Nido exclaimed in unison.
Yuri soared uncontrollably through the air, propelled by the excruciating kick. The Pikachu hit the ground and rolled backwards into a tree. He groaned weakly before losing consciousness. Nido and Dani darted over to their boss in dismay.
“That’s what you get for messing with me,” Sho arrogantly proclaimed, picking up his bag he left by a nearby tree. “If we ever meet again, I may not be as nice.”
“Hey, wait a minute, Mienshao!” Nido shouted over, scrapping his front foot against the grass in preparation for a charge. “No one beats up our boss and gets away with it!”
“Especially a no good outlaw!” Dani added, equally as miffed.
Sho sighed. “For the last time – I am NOT an outlaw!” he shouted, charging at Nido.
Nido also charged forward, his head titled forward for a Horn Attack. Dani kept her distance, ready to attack Sho with another Egg Bomb whether or not Nido failed at his valiant attempt. The two combatants jumped at one another. Sho prepared his U-Turn while Nido planned to unleash his Horn Attack. Both attacks collided with the Mienshao and his super-effective assault trumping over the unlucky Nidorino.
“Arrgggh!” Nido cried, taking the full force of Sho’s U-Turn.
Dani immediately stepped in, throwing an Egg Bomb at Sho. Unlike the previous effort, the oversized egg hit the Mienshao dead-on, exploding on impact. Sho managed to maintain his stability and strike the Chansey with his Stone Edge. Due to her high defence, Dani endured most of the blow.
“Your boss and Nidorino friend are down, Chansey,” Sho pointed out with a cruel sneer, hopping back a couple of spaces. “Why don’t you just give up and let me pass already? You can’t win against me!”
“I may be at a severe type disadvantage, but that doesn’t mean I will give up on my team like that!” Dani courageously proclaimed, her quivering body hinting otherwise.
“Is this all because you still think I am an outlaw? Grow a darn brain!” Sho insinuated with an added growl. “I may not be the nicest guy and I admit my temper can get the better of me, but I am NOT a bad guy!”
Dani scowled. “You really think I am at naive?” she inquired.
Sho let out an aggravated sigh before finishing off the final member of Team Upspark with a devastating Hi Jump Kick. No sooner than Dani fell in defeat, Sho dropped to his knees in exhaustion, the injuries he sustained finally catching up to him.
“So, they call themselves Team Upspark, huh?” Sho questioned out loud, eying each of the knocked out Pokemon. “It’s a fitting name, I give them that.”
After taking a moment or so to recuperate, Sho got back to his feet and headed into the town, making sure to give the defeated Rescue Team a final, annoyed stare before he left.
