Romanian Three-Tail Study - Thoracic, Brachial Detail
The first of the four that I drew when embarking on this project. I learned so much after this image that it surprises me, but this drawing is not invalid despite all of that. Enjoy, and thanks for looking!
This is one of four anatomical studies I created for my Senior Art Exhibition, "Think∴Make". These studies are of the dragon species I have developed, the Romanian Three-Tail, and in this case, a female. Chiefly muscular view of the chest, neck, and forelimbs, with specific focus on the wing girdle and forelimb/forefoot.
For the species I've developed, I have looked into human, theropod dinosaur, avian, chiropteran (bat), large felid, and reptilian anatomy, and have applied a generic knowledge of biomechanics and physiology to map out potential ways for this animal to actually exist somewhere, if not on planet Earth. This creature has a lot of significance to me, and the strides I take to map out a feasible reality for said creature can be seen as an attempt to satiate my mind's desires for that very reality. Art, and science - who says they can't coexist?!?
All four drawings can be seen arranged together here: https://www.furaffinity.net/full/9424109/
11 x 14 inches, .05 2B mechanical pencil on Bristol Vellum paper.
Time: ~8-10 hours

Deltoid muscles in quadruped animals are not as significant or almost completely absent, from what my observations have shown me. The deltoid muscles on the wing 'arms' however are more dorsally placed than they would appear on, say, a horizontally-oriented human figure. If this were more directed toward avian wing and wing girdle anatomy, the deltoid would also be reduced - there are more pulley-like, smaller muscles in the avian form that pull the wing arm upward in an upstroke.
Well as far as I've been studying animalistic anatomy, I just view it in terms of "alteration" from the human biology.
Like uhm...oh! If humans became more animal featured, one possibility is that we can have digitigrade feet. Just stretch out our heel, stand on our tiptoes, put more mass into our higher legs and we have become a little more animal type! Course our center of gravity will be thrown off, so we'd need something to keep our balance. :P
