not bad, I had good mental imagery even though there wasn't much to describe the environment. I can tell that you are new to writing though. You used the word grope many times even though it was not the best choice of word. All and all, I am left wanting to know more about what happens to the main character, witch means it has all the important literary elements of a good story.
