Artwork for Tails and Tactics http://tailsandtactics.com/ This is just one of over 150 illustrations I created for the game!
Help fund the game -- we're in the final countdown, with 48 hours to go! We've reached our funding goal, but continued contributions will help make Series 2 (which includes the highly-requested British, Italians, and other factions) a reality! http://www.indiegogo.com/tailsandtactics?a=1738798
Bored with battle? Your automatic rifle also comes in handy for an impromptu round of duck hunting.

As for the historical part, when the USA started to take part in WW2 their army needed to be completely reorganized and equipped with new weapons, vehicles and Equipment. This is not meant in a negative way, but the US Army had a strengh of 1.400 Officers and 241.100 NCOs and enlisted men, mostly equipped with outdated weapons and vehicles and using tactics from the time of the First Great War.
The Marines of the 1st Marine Defense Battalion in the Pacific for example still used the Springfield M-1903 Rifle instead of the more modern G1 Garand. And their equipment, Helmets, Uniforms and other things where all outdated by the time around 1935. Only the industrial capacities of the US-Industry and the many workersw in the countless factories were able to solve these problems.

I didn't mean the rifle pictured here, I meant the one you called the "G1 Garand" in your comment above. There is no G1 Garand (I tried looking it up on Wikipedia), but there is an M1 Garand. In any case, though, I know the one pictured here isn't a Garand. I'm not very familiar with the BAR, but this does look like one.
