Aquatic Asquelion species info
The thing about Asquelions, is that they are in fact an open species.
Anyone can create one if they want one.
In fact that's what I want!
What I don't want is a bunch of misinterpreted, hipster-scene asquelion that are just basic husks of the species I have created and laid down basic boundaries for.
Hence why I do developmental things like above, to show the do's and don'ts of Asquelion creation.
I'll be doing one for each sub-species, and if I have time, I'll probably do a special on Hybrids and the pro's and con's of interbreeding between the three types.
Here's a basic run-down on all the info on an Aquatic
Eyes:
Clearly, the Aquatic breed is based on the cephalopod....as such they have eyes like a Cuttlefish! The Aquatic pupil is a soft w shape, and like cuttlefish, they cannot see colour. They see through the polarization of light, which helps them see contrasting shades better. They also have two spots of concentrated sensor cells on their retina, one pointed forward, and the other backward, giving them no blind spots.
Size differences and build:
The male Aquatic is usually much larger than the female, as the female does a majority of the food gathering, while the male is charged with caring and protecting the young and the territory around the home/nest. Since females are smaller, they can hide easier from those that would wish to hurt them, and squeeze into crevices where underwater plantlife might be growing untouched where other species cannot get them. The Female is also much faster than the male, able to dart through the water at lightning fast speeds.
Their build is always immaciated and thin looking, their bodies long and lean. Often times an Aquatic is mistaken for being starving, due to where the gills are located upon their ribcage.
AQUATICS HAVE NO BODY HAIR. NONE. AT ALL. This includes pubic hair, armpit hair, leg hair, and hair upon their heads. They are BALD. Hair simply isn't inducive to their environment...they have no need for it.
Their skin is rubbery and thick, like a dolphin's, and since they spend a majority of their time in the water they don't really get cold.
However they ARE amphibious, and have been known upon occasion to occupies homes on land rather than under the waves.
In these instances it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that they keep themselves bundled, as they are cold blooded, and may accidentally freeze to death otherwise.
ALL ASQUELIONS HAVE HOOVES. PERIOD. The only time they will NOT have hooves is if they have interbred with a species that doesn't have them....and even then it's a 50/50 chance.
Aquatic Asquelions have hooves similar to that of a goat.
AQUATIC ASQUELIONS DO NOT HAVE CLOSED OFF MOUTHS.
They are skeletal in appearance ALWAYS. This helps them breathe on land since their gills work only in the water.
ALL ASQUELIONS LAY EGGS.
Aquatic eggs are smaller than the other two species' of Asquelion, and tend to be laid in bunches of, at maximum, ten.
MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF TENTACLES FOR EITHER GENDER:
On the face it is six
on the back it is eight
on the groin it is five.
NO MORE THAN THAT NUMBER. Too many and they will become crowded together and useless.
MINIMUM AMOUNT OF TENTACLES FOR EITHER GENDER:
On the face it is three
on the back it is two
on the groin it is two
TENTACLES ON AQUATICS IS A MUST They use them for protection, hunting, and building.
You may notice they only have two fingers and a thumb on each hand...this is part of the reason why the tentacles are necessary...without them they would not have as good of a grip on things.
DIET:
Aquatics are the only breed of asquelion that can easily digest fish and meat. As such they will catch small fish, crabs, shrimp, and sometimes even smaller octopi to eat. They also will eat seaweed and various other water-based plantlife.
