Just kinda...taking a shot in the dark here...but would it help if you added a little more detail to the wisp. Some swirlies or something like that so he doesn't appear so pale and off balance with the more detailed figure?

Still, the concept of summoning or creating familiars and companions out of smoke is an interesting one, to be sure.

I love this! maybe a little more detail to the wispy friend? but I think it's great is is, really. this would look really amazing on a t-shirt, with the whispy friend wrapped slightly around the side of the shirt towards the back.
