Christina was founded in the mid 1680's as port town. In the old days when port activity was common the town had a reputation for prostitution and gambling, though for the most part these eastern towns, even in the early days, never had the rowdy and violent reputation of western frontier towns. Christiana's port days were short lived and the town soon became another quiet country town. As a result, however, the town despite its small size still has many early colonial buildings.
The large brick building pictured was a hotel once used by George Washington. The little wooden house to the right is supposedly the oldest structure in town.
The little decrepit house to the right has since been renovated and preserved.
