Much of what constituted the porch was pulled offa partially demolished house that'd sat abandoned for a few years.

it was kind of annoying to find that many other people had already thought of the phrase "hobo chic" before this post made me think of it. but, they didn't think of "dustbin debonair", the schmucks! and i think that describes mr. fragzlecat just as well.
i hope you'll show us more of this neato character. seeing his shanty house really adds a lot of fun depth to his personality; it's so easy to imagine him puttering around in there.
your concept of making refuse into...not refuse anymore (i'm guessing that's what "upcycling" means?) is fascinating and especially well illustrated by this character and his abode. it's kind of like flowering plants that adapted to look like crumpled up mcdonalds bags and candy bard wrappers and suchlike (i didn't know until i typed that that 'suchlike' is a legit word) in their pre-bloom phases. or something.
also, i just noticed the word 'dandy' in your description and that just tickles me pink(er than usual)!
