Nocturne being part of the main SMT family, (SMT 3 literally) is among the hardest ones. Strange Journey being SMT 4 is right behind it too. :0

No marten Persona demons sadly, even though the legends of the "ten" say that martens have better shapeshifting powers than kitsune AND tanuki, and have a tendency to start fires in groups!

there's a LOT more "refined" shapshifting species and creatures in myths and folklore of varying regions :) coyotes, foxes, martens....even felinse and weasels too. XD Japanese have a lot of fun ones, but i enjoy a lot of the Chinese ones that can be found. some old Celtic ones are great as well! ^^

Aeon Genesis did a (rather buggy, use the bugfix and automap patches found on romhacking.net) translation of SMT1 for the Super Famicom, it's the only one in the series I've played, and I love it so far.
It's tough as hell, but it hurts so good. :3
