Kaede is a ruby meadowhawk (Sympetrum rubicundulum) hunter that keeps away dangerous beasts from the village. With Satoshi's arrival, he feels his place of semi-authority might be threatened, and as such has a rather low regard of the short-tempered ronin. He's aware of Sanzu's shady past but keeps that under his hat, and spends most of his days scouting the hills for danger. He comes off as laid-back and unsophisticated, and has few wants of the wider world.
