Ode To Last Year (And The Years Before That)

Another year began, and another year's gone
For today is the big finale of this year
All of the cherished memories (including the ones we hated)
Do you remember all things, said and done?

You still remember, do you not?
Of course you have, you just forgot (for that split second)
Damn, what a doozy this year's been
Can't imagine how next year'll be.
But before we start the new year,
Let's hit the brakes for a quick second
Go back in time and recap
All of the greatest moments (embedded into your system).

Do you remember the first time, the very first time
When you received a gift, from both friend and family?
What made you like what you do now?
Or perhaps when you gave someone, you liked, a gift (of your own)?
The first kiss received by your first boyfriend/girlfriend,
How important your first day on the job was?
The day when you got your first car,
Or when you are deemed a Man/Woman of the world?

The day when you wrote your first story,
Which evolved into a novel
Or a song you just heard
Then later danced to it?
An idea you thought of
People asked for your assistance
The moment when you spoke
Others began to listen?

These are not just simple events
They are milestones that you are glad to have made
Treasure them, cherish them
Never let them fade away.

And so before I end the day
I have one last thing to say:
